Chapter 2
It's been two weeks since I last heard anything of Remy from Orroro and Kitty. I
hope this doesn't mean that it really wasn't him. I pray that it was him,
please let it be him. Rogue silently pleaded as she paced around the
surprisingly empty halls of the Xavier Mansion. She has barely slept in the
last two weeks, constantly thinking about Remy's whereabouts. She even made a
few more unsuccessful journeys to the cold continent of Antarctica, knowing
full well that he was no longer there, yet hoping maybe he was. She was so
engulfed with thinking about Remy, that she literally ran into the big blue
furry Hank McCoy, lost her balance and fell down.
"Oh my goodness, are you okay, Rogue?" A concerned Hank asked as he
ran to her side and helped her up.
"Ah'm okay. Ah'm sorry about that, Hank. Ah don't know how Ah couldn't
have seen y'll there. My mind was preoccupied." Answered Rogue as she got
up with the help of Hank.
"Well, you seem to be looking a little pale lately. Have you been eating
much? Are you feeling alright?" Asked Beast as he study her a little
closer.
"Ah'm fine. Really. Ah've jus' been a lil' tired lately. Tat's all. Notin'
to worry about. Really." Replied Rogue suddenly feeling a little nervous
with Hank observing her so closely.
"Still, I would like to give you a physical examination. You still don't
look healthy enough to me, and I know how much stress you have been under. It
won't surprise me if that's the cause of your fatigue of late. Come downstairs
to the medlab later on during the day, so I can properly recommend and
prescribe the right treatment so you can regain your strength and some colour
in those cheeks of yours." Insisted a very determined Dr. McCoy.
"Fine. There's no point arguing wit y'll. Ah'll see you later, Hank. If
you don't mind me, Ah think my stomach isn't agreeing with the pancakes Logan
made for breakfast this mornin'!" Exclaimed Rogue as she ran towards the
nearest bathroom, leaving Hank to wonder if the pancakes really are the reason
she rushing off to the bathroom.
* * *
"So, Hank, how Ah'm ah? My body's all fine and working in order, like ah
said it was?" Rogue asked as her back is facing Hank, while she changes
back into her clothes.
"I think I found the reason for your fatigue of late. Rogue, when we were
in Antarctica. I don't know how to ask this." A reluctant Hank trailed
off.
"Hank, jus' ask me. You're the doctor, so ask whateva' need be
asked." Rogue replied bluntly.
"Well, when you and Gambit were there, and with your powers neutralized,
did you two consummate your love?" Asked Hank.
"Yah, we did." Rogue simply answered.
"Rogue, I don't think the rush to the bathroom earlier had anything to do
with Logan's pancakes. I think it was your first morning sickness." Hank
stated.
"Oh gawd, this can't mean, ah. what ah'm ah gonna do, Hank?" Rogue
asked as she collapsed on the floor, with her knees brought up to her body, and
her face crying into her arms.
"Rogue, it's going to be okay. You're going to be a mother. It's a
wonderful thing. Trust me." Hank assured her, as he went to her side to
try and comfort her.
"How can it be wonderful? Mah baby's not gonna have a father because of
me. This wasn't supposed to happen this way. As long as it was just me losing
Remy, Ah thought ah could deal with it eventually, but not only did ah lose him
for mahself, but for mah baby too. How will mah chil' evah forgive me for
throwing his father away?" Rogue asked between her huge heaps of sobs.
Beast gently lifted Rogue's face to look into his eyes and said, "Rogue,
no matter what, this child has a mother who will love him or her with all her
heart. This child will forgive you because you continued to live for yourself
and him or her. You have to believe that your motherly instincts and love will
help you get through this without Remy. Do not think you are alone in this
either. Your child has a houseful of aunts, uncles, babysitters. all ready to
love this child and support you through this all. You'll be a wonderful
mother."
"Really, Hank?" Asked a very frightened Rogue.
"Really. Now, get up off the floor, darling." Hank told her as he
helped her up. "I want you to get a lot of rest. This means, no more late
night flying off to god knows where. Night time means sleep, you got that? Don't
worry about anything else, I'll be here constantly checking up on your
pregnancy and making sure everything goes okay."
"Tank y'll, Hank. Ah think ah might just go follow your advice about
getting some sleep. And Hank."
"Yes, Rogue?"
"Please don't tell anyone about this. Not yet anyway." Rogue
requested.
"Rogue, how dare you suggest I would even do such a thing. Remember, I'm a
doctor, and you're my patient, which all means doctor-patient confidentiality."
Hank answered with a mock expression of being shocked that she would even
suggest such a thing.
"Tank y'll, Hank." Rogue plainly stated as she ran to give the furry
big guy a hug before running to her room for some much needed sleep.
