Commitment-Phobia
6. A young man with short blonde
hair and piercing blue eyes was talking to the owner of the auto shop. After a
few words were exchanged, he headed into the garage in search of a mechanic
named Anna. He looked confused when he was in the garage. All the mechanics
there were men. There did not seem to be a woman mechanic anywhere. Maybe he
had heard the name wrong, he thought as he scanned the big garage again. Then
she appeared from the office, and she was gorgeous.
Anna walked up to him and gave
him a warm smile. "Hi sugah, heard your bike needs some workin' on." She
said.
"Umm.. My bike? Umm..
right, my bike. That's it. Yeah." He stammered, as he couldn't keep his
eyes off her. She had the most beautiful body and the most striking green eyes.
"Sugah, quit staring and
let's go see what's up with your bike." She said bluntly as she gave him a
wink and a flirtatious smile.
The man started to blush and
managed to spit out, "Right."
Anna led the way to the
apparently broken bike. She scanned it and finally asked, "What's wrong
with it?"
The man just kept staring at
her beauty and did not hear her question. Anna just watched him amusingly, then
finally said, "Sugah, ya gotta stop that."
The man's cheeks turned a deep
crimson red as he can feel his ears burning from embarrassment too. "Umm..
I'm sorry, it's just that you're so beautiful. I know that sounds lame and you
probably get that a lot, but it's the truth."
Anna let out a little laugh and
her cheeks turned a little pink. "Thank ya, sugah. And no, that's the
first time someone's been so nice."
"I wasn't being nice, I
was being honest." He said as he stared into her sparkling green eyes. Man,
I can stare into her eyes forever, he thought.
Anna shifted her feet a little
and looked away from his piercing blue eyes. "Well, tell me, what's wrong
with your bike?"
"Umm, I think it's the
gears. It's just not running as smooth as it should." He replied and
focused his attention to his motorcycle.
Anna checked it over and said,
"It's nothing my little hands can't handle. It'll be ready for pick-up in
an hour. In the meantime, why don't ya check out the boardwalk or
something?"
"Umm.. if you don't mind,
I'd rather stay here with you that is if you would like the company." He
boldly suggested and behind his back, he crossed his fingers hoping she would
let him.
Anna looked at him for a while
then decided he was harmless and said, "Sure, sugah. The name's Anna Raven
and ah'll be your mechanic for today." She held out her right hand to him.
"The name's Jason
Lawrence. Nice to meet you, Anna." He replied and took her right hand with
his right hand and shook it.
"Nice to meet ya too,
Jason." She said, and he thought his name never sounded so sweet.
***
"Really? I love that movie
too. It was one of my favorites. The story captured the triumph and will one
man can have, wonderfully." Jason said animatedly. For the past hour, he
has had the best conversation in his entire life and he was so convinced that
it was all because of Anna.
"Ah know what ya mean. The
Pianist was such a terrific film. Ah can't remember a time that ah cried so
much at the movies, y'know?" Anna replied, as she was finishing up the
final touches on Jason's bike.
"Hey Anna, if you're not
busy tonight, why don't you and I go catch the latest Russell Crowe movie? I heard
it's supposed to be Oscar worthy?" He suggested casually, although in
truth he was nervous as hell and was silently praying she will say yes.
Anna was taken aback at his
offer. Was he asking her out on a date, she thought. She started to panic.
"Umm.. ah don't think so,
Jason. It's just that ah barely know ya." Anna replied as she looked away
from him and tried to be preoccupied with his bike although she knew that it
was all fixed up and ready to go.
"C'mon, Anna. We had possibly
the best conversation in the last hour or so. You cannot say you don't know me.
I told you that I'm originally from the East coast, moved out here because of
my job. I used to work on Broadway as a stage manager then came out to sunny
California to try my luck at producing movies. You also know that my mother
makes a mean apple pie and that my dad teaches at Juilliard as a music
instructor. You know that I am crazy about you and think you are perhaps the
most stunning woman I have ever seen. I don't have any kids, or ex-wives, or
deranged psychopathic ex-girlfriends that are after me. I am just a sweet
honest guy asking the woman of his dreams to go watch an innocent movie. Whaddaya
say?" He proposed with determination, not willing to accept 'no' for an
answer. He gave her his most charming smile.
Anna laughed and finally said,
"Fine. Ah'd love to go."
Jason felt his smile get wider,
if that was even possible, he thought. "Great. Just great. Umm.. Thank
you." He stammered.
Anna laughed at his boyish
charm. "Jason, just to let ya know, part of the reason ah said yes was
because ah think Russell Crowe looks hot with long hair." She said
teasingly.
Jason's smile did not flinch at
all. He looked up at the sky and said, "Thank you Russell Crowe!"
"So, I'll pick you up at
eight? Oh, and I figure you might be hungry so let's go out to eat too, okay? I
know this great little Italian place." Jason suggested quickly, hoping he
had managed to casually throw in the dinner offer without her thinking too much
into it.
Anna looked at him with
amusement. She knew it must have taken him a lot of courage to throw that bit
about dinner in there. "Fine, sounds great. Your bike is ready t'go."
She finally replied.
Jason let out a relieved sigh
with the smile still plastered on his face. "Okay, I'll see you at eight
then.
"At eight."

Remy was lounging around the
house with nothing to do. For the past few days he was so bored that he had
considered getting a job. He laughed at the thought and realized that he will
never be that bored or desperate. Him and Rogue had been on really great terms
of late. They managed to have real conversations, hang out a few times, and
relaxed as friends. Sure, there were many times he wanted to just kiss her
beautiful succulent lips, but he knew they shouldn't fall back into that old
pattern of being on and off. It always wound up hurting both of them more in
the end. He was content with what he had though, and couldn't complain.
Then there was the whole,
'going out and looking for his calling'. He went out every night since the day
he promised Rogue he would. However, what she didn't know was that he usually
wound up at a bar, drinking with the guys, checking the time to see if Rogue
was in bed, and then returning home to sleep. Rogue always assumed that he must
have a lot of dates, and at first it was awkward for her but she eventually got
used to it. He thought she probably blocked the whole idea of him being on a
date from her mind.
It wasn't like he didn't try
going out with different women. It was just that it was so easy for him to get
with anyone. There was no challenge, no excitement, and plus most of the women
he thought would be a strong feminine woman, all turned out to completely give
in to him without so much as breaking a sweat on his part. None of them held
the same passion that Rogue did. He figured that he would just keep up the
charade of him 'looking for his calling' for Rogue's sake, and just let things
come naturally to him. He was more interested in building his and Rogue's
friendship at the moment.
"Remy, ah'm home." Rogue
said as she crept up from behind him.
"Hey chere. How was
work?" He turned around and asked.
"It was interesting. So
you're going out later, right?" She asked him.
"Umm.. right. Big date
tonight." He replied quickly.
"Okay, well meh too. So
ah'm gonan go shower first." She stated as she left for the bathroom.
Remy stood there then realizing
what she said, he exclaimed, "WHAT?!?"
***
Remy banged on her bedroom door
for the tenth time. "Are y'ready yet? You have some explaini' t'do!"
Rogue finally emerged from her
bedroom dressed in a lacey pink slip dress, with her hair tied up loosely and
her white streaks down framing her face.
Remy just stared at her and
couldn't remember the last time she had look so elegant, poised, and goddamn
sexy.
"Anywho, he's going t'be
here any minute now. So ya have fun, okay?" She said as she walked by him
to sit on the couch and wait for Jason.
Remy snapped out of his trance
and hurried after her. "What do you mean 'he's going t'be here any minute
now'?"
Rogue looked at Remy and tried
not to laugh as he was clearly jealous at the fact the fact that she had a
date. He was just so cute when he's jealous, she thought.
"This guy just came in
t'day and asked me t'watch a movie, sugah. That's all." She explained
innocently.
"You dress like that for a
movie?!?!" Remy exclaimed as he started shaking his finger at her.
"Well, we're going to
dinner too." She said as she gave him an innocent smile.
"So, it's a date
den?" Remy asked clearly beyond jealous now.
"Remy, we said we'd
explore and what not. Plus, you've been going out for the past five nights and
ah haven't complained. It's not like I'm going out and marrying Jason. We're
just hanging out y'know." She said in an attempt to cease his jealousy.
"Den how come you never
dress like dat for Remy?" He asked still jealous at the fact that some guy
was taking his chere out.
"Well, it's your own
fault! It's not like ya ever asked me out on a proper date!" She answered
loudly.
"Fine. Remy's not jealous.
He's happy for you. Go out and watch your lil' movie with Jaaason.. See if Remy
cares! Just remember you come home t'me!" He stated with a mixture of
jealousy and spite.
Rogue couldn't hold it in any
longer and started laughing uncontrollably. Remy just stared at her and thought
it was rude that she would be so insensitive. Once she controlled her laughter,
she just said, "Right Remy. Ah'll remember that. But who said ah'll be
coming home t'night?" She taunted, as she couldn't resist.
He looked as if he was about to
blow as his face became all red at the thought of another man touching Rogue. He
stared at her, "You wouldn't dare sleep with him on de first date! Dat's
just.. just.. just.. slutty!"
"Well at least we'll be on
a date. It doesn't even take that much for you to put out." She commented.
"Dat's different! Remy's a
man, and you're an innocent fille!" Remy exclaimed.
"Now isn't that a double
standard, Remy? What difference does that make? Anyway, ah'm through with
messing wit' ya. Ah don't plan to sleep with Jason. Not everything leads to
sex, Rem." She answered.
All of a sudden there was a
knock at the door. Rogue got up and ran to the door to greet a blushing smiling
Jason, looking ever so handsome dressed in a black dress shirt with the top
buttons undone, and in a pair of grey pinstriped pants. He was also holding a
dozen red roses.
"Anna, you look
amazing." He managed to say as he just stared at her beauty.
Rogue blushed and said,
"Thank ya. Ya look good yourself, sugah. Are those for meh?"
"Of course. Here you go. Wow,
you are so beautiful." He couldn't help but compliment her again.
"Thank ya. Ah'll just put
these in water first, would ya like t'come in for a minute?" She asked as
she took the flowers and headed towards the kitchen to fill a vase with water.
"Sure, I would love
to." He replied and followed her into the house.
"Mmmhmmph!"
Jason turned to the sudden
sound that came from the living room where a man dressed in a black t-shirt and
shorts was staring at him with red on black eyes. Jason suddenly started
getting nervous.
Remy checked out his
competition and concluded that he was totally the opposite of himself. He had
short blonde hair, blue eyes, and was rather clean-cut, whereas Remy had
somewhat long auburn hair, red on black eyes, and let's face it, he was
definitely nowhere as clean-cut as Jason was. Remy was already showing a five
o'clock shadow whereas the boy didn't even look like he's hit puberty yet. Why
in the hell would Rogue be interested in this Jason? He wondered.
"Umm.. hello. I'm Jason
Lawrence." Jason introduced himself as he offered his right hand for
Remy's.
Remy just looked at his hand
with disgust and said, "Hi, I'm Remy Lebeau. I'm Anna's ex-.."
"COUSIN!" Anna yelled
before Remy could finish his sentence.
Remy looked at Rogue with an
eyebrow arched.
Anna gave Remy a look
signifying him to play along. "He's my cousin. He's just visiting from New
Orleans. Recognize the Cajun accent, Jason?" She explained as she focused
her attention to Jason.
Jason looked back and forth
between the two, still a little confused, but nonetheless thought it was the
truth. "Yeah, I do recognize. Umm.. Anna, you want to go now?" He
asked.
"Sure, let's go. Remy, you
have fun on your date too, okay? Ah'll see ya later." She said as she gave
Remy a quick kiss on the cheek and left with Jason.
"Dat girl sure is
quick."
***
Where is she? It's already one
a.m. He thought as he kept glancing at the clock. Remy did not wind up going
out at all. Instead, he just sat at home waiting for her to come back. He had
thought that she would have been home by midnight, 12:30 at the latest, but
it's already one a.m. and he was getting nervous. He had watched Letterman,
Leno, Kilborn, O'Brian, but drew the line at Carson Daly.
He knew he was jealous. He was
just stupid before to believe that she wouldn't be dating other people. How
dumb was that, he thought. He was seeing other people, why wouldn't she be
allowed? I'm such an idiot!
"Where is she?" He
muttered aloud as he lay down on the couch and just concentrated on the clock.
***
Rogue crept in at around two
a.m. and heard the sound of light snoring. She walked into the living room and
found Remy sound asleep on the couch and realized that he must have waited up
for her. She smiled at the sentiment and went into her bedroom to grab a
blanket from her closet. She returned to her sleeping Cajun, and covered him
with the blanket.
She bent down and gave him a
light kiss on the cheek.
"G'night Remy. Sweet dreams."
