When Gambit Saw Her

* I do not own Rogue and gambit. Rogue and gambit are characters of marvel and so are the rest of the characters in here.. This fic takes place in the xmen evoultion world where gambit works for magneto and Rogue is an xmen.


Gambit had his back leaning against the wall with his legs stretched out in front of him. He played with the ace of spades card in between his fingers. He was suppose to be on guard duty, watching the cameras , making sure no one that didn’t work for Magneto got into the headquarters, but his mind kept wondering off to her. Just then the doors began to slide open. Gambit stood up and charged his card. He hoped someone wanted to battle that way he could focus on fighting and stop thinking about her.

“Whoa! Take it easy there mate”

Gambit frowned a bit and merely tossed his card to the side with no force behind it at all the card just popped like a small firework. Pyro began walked towards him.

“Pyro? Oh…it’s just you” Gambit said

“ You almost sound disappointed ,chum” Pyro replied
“ Aren’t you supposed to be on the look out? What if I had been one of the X-Men? What would you have done?”

Gambit smiled at him

“ Don’t know….depends on which one you’d be”


“ Maybe It wouldn’t be a X-Men at all” Pyro teased “Maybe it would be a X -woman”

Gambit, who never liked being made a joke of, pushed Pyro across the room so hard he smashed into the metal sliding doors.

“What you mean by that mon ami?” he reached into his trench coat and pulled out a charged card.
“ Gambit does not like being mocked”

Pyro shook off the impact with the wall and began to form a rather large fireball within the palm of his hand.

“ You sure you wanna do this ,Cajun? I can make things pretty hot in here”

They stared at each other, waiting for either one to make the first move.

“ You Don’t want to be doing that now”

Gambit and Pyro looked toward the doorway and there stood Sabertooth with his arms crossed and leaning up against the doors.

“ Magneto has a mission for you two, which I’m sure he’d want for you to be in one piece”




With the words “ Magneto has a mission….” both Gambit and Pyro curbed their anger at each other and proceeded to follow Sabertooth out the doors, down the hall to the control room where Magneto always had his meetings. It was a dimly lighted round room. The walls of this room were made of red stone and brick, so that no one outside the room could hear what was being said. There was a round metal table in the middle. Magneto, of course sat and the north end of this circle. Sabertooth sat down to the left of him and next to him sat Colossus. The son of Magneto, Quicksilver or Pietro has he’s father calls him, sat to the right of him. Pyro sat in a chair that was the exact opposite of Magneto. Gambit choose to stand, through he did follow Magneto, it didn’t mean he had to respect him.

“ Remy, John so glad you could join us. I have a jog for you two and Peter. Pietro has found out that the X - teens will be attending a sort of school dance at a local high school tonight. You will be attending that dance has well. I want you to try to get them to use there powers I front of the humans, start a fight if you must. IF we want humans to fear mutants, they must fear all of us even the X-Men. Don’t go in there and start tearing up the place , blend in at first, watch the x - children. The skilled hunter watched his prey before he attacks. Pietro will take you there and remember tonight act your age and blend it, your dismissed.”




Gambit, Pyro and Colossus left to there rooms. They knew would Magneto said blend it he meant change out of your uniforms. Gambit wore seem baggy black jeans and a white shirt with a unbuttoned red collared shirt over it and of course his trench coat. His uniform usually held his hair back out of his face, which was quite long. He thought about tying it back, but decided to just let it loose. Pyro looked like some skater/punk with khaki cargo shorts, black vans and an ethics shirt. Peter , who was a Russian gentleman, looked very Acrombie and Fitch, with is striped pole shirt tucked into his midly baggu dark denium jeans. Pietro wore a gray shirt tucked into cargo pants. Gambit drove, he could never stand riding in the back. They arrived around 8:30 before they entered the dance Pietro stopped them.

“Remember blend in”

“No worries” Pyro said “ Just bring on the ladies”

Pyro starts to strut towards the doors when Peter grabbed his shoulder.

“ We are here on business John” Peter said
“ Eh?” Pyro questioned “ a bit o’ fun won’t hurt none…what say you, Remy?”

Gambit looked through the windows of the building and he caught a sight of her. A smirk placed itself on Gambits face he chuckled a bit.

“ I reckon it couldn’t hurt”

With that they entered the party. If it hadn’t been for the strobe light and the bright, big disco ball that place would’ve be completely dark, it was barely enough light to see in front of you. There was a stage to the north of the building, on the east wall was a small bar with stools, the west side were tables and booths and there was a balcony. Within 20 minutes the evil 4 had separated. Pyro and Quicksilver were flirting with girls. Colossus seem to be the only one doing his job, he was watching Jean and Cyclops dance together. Gambit wasn’t really watching ,he doing more of looking . He saw Lance and Kitty dancing, Toad and Blob were at a booth chowing down on the free food, and Nightcrawler was dancing with his girlfriend Amanda, but where was she? He swore he saw her. Then there it was... that short dark reddish brown hair with her trademark streaks, even if she didn’t have that hair, he would’ve noticed her. The way she moved, her dancing (unknowing to him she had aborbed some of Kitty’s great dancing abilities ). She had on long black gloves that reached almost to her shoulders, a red velvet top with a long black skirt. “ Hey at least we matched” he thought. They had met twice before, one of those times he tried to kill her, nothing personal, but it was his job. The other time they met words were spoken and he referred to her has “ Cherie” embarrassed he muttered “ nice day” and walked away praying that she had no clue that “Cherie” meant “my dear “ where he comes form.

He watched her until she stopped dancing and headed towards the bar, where he was. She looked thirsty and a little tired.. Gambit knew she would most likely recknize him and even if she didn’t even Magneto had even the slightly clue what he was about to do he would surely be punished, but if there is one thing Gambit could not resist it was a beautiful women. Gambit order a bottle of water and headed toward her. She was sitting at a stool with her back facing the crowd.

“ Bonjour”
Gambit placed the bottle in front of her and leaned up against the bar.

“Thanks, but I don’t…..” She looked up from the bar at him. He smiled.
“ YOU!!” she stood up

“ Miss me? Don’t worry, I’m here to have some fun not to start a battle”

Which of course was a lie, but he at least wanted to get her name before he had to start throwing down. She crossed her arms and kinda pouted her mouth. Gambit thought it was cute.

“ Right….like I’d believe someone like you’ she said

“Chere, you misjudge Gambit, he’s not here to hurt you, he just wanna chat”

“ Gambit?” she laughed “And I thought my nickname was stupid”

“ And what might that be?”

SHE pointed her index at him and starting poking him in the chest.
“ Look here, you got 5 minutes to get out of here, if I see you here again I’m gonna give you the shock of your life!!”

Gambit grabbed her gloved hand and pulled her towards him.
“shock of my life huh? I might just like that…..”
She stared at him for awhile, like she was lost for words. She pulled herself away and stormed off into the crowd. Gambit smiled has he watched her disappear
“ This girl” He thought “ she gonna be a challenge , any other guy would’ve given up by now, but Gambit…he be no other guy and one thing Gambit loves is a challenge

Rogue forced her way through the crowd. She spotted Kitty and Lance, taking a break after dancing, sitting down at a table. Rogue headed in that direction. Kitty saw Rogue stomping towards them the look at Rogue’s face….Kitty knew something was up. Kitty waited until Rogue sat down to bring it up.

“ Rogue? Is something wrong?” Kitty asked

Rogue leaned back into her chair , crossed her arms and pouted.

“ It’s this guy…he comes on all sweet and stuff but I could see through like glass.”

“ what guy?” Kitty asked

“ Umm…he works for Magneto…..Gambit?” Rogue replied

‘ Gambit?!?!” Lance. Who has beef with Gambit in the past, begins to stand up. Kitty reached over and puts her hand on his arm has to say “calm down” which of course he did.

“Should we warn Scott??’ Kitty asked

“ HMM….I don’t know, he said he wasn’t here to start any trouble but he seemed to…..”

“ What? Rogue what did he want?”

“ To be honest” Rogue began to blush “ I think he wanted to know my name”

Kitty looked at Rogue, who was hiding her face behind her hair.

“ Rogue why are u blushing?”

“ I’m NOT!!!!” Rogue shouted


Come on Rogue” Lance said “ Don’t tell me you’re attached to him??”

Rogue looked down at the table and then over her shoulder at the bar, he wasn’t there.

“ Looking for some one, petite?”

Rogue turned around and there standing between Kitty and Lance was Gambit.

“ YOU!” Rogue shouted has so stood up

“ Oh, so you were looking for me, chere”

Lance clutched his fists
“ What do you want?!”

“ Easy mon ami, I’m not here to bash you, I’m here for the girl”

“ Oh yeah?” Rogue replied “ What do you want with me?!”

Gambit looked around the room and then locked eyes with Rogue.

“ Well…being at a dance and all…”

“ No way Gambit, Lance said “ Rogue’s not interested”

Gambit smiled at Rogue.
“ IS that so?”
Gambit walked over to Rogue and extended his hand. Rogue looked at his hand then at Kitty, she smiled and nodded. Rogue looked into Gambit’s eyes; burning, intense and red. As mush as she wish she wasn’t she was attracted to him. Still gazing into his eyes, she placed her gloved hand into his. Gambit proceeded to lead her to the dance floor.

“ WHAT AM I DOING??” she thought to herself “ hello! Rogue…he’s the bad guy! God! If Xavier knew what I was doing I would be punished!” Rogue , who was typically cruel, cold and never gave any one that light of day, found herself nervous and a little awkward, she would’ve pulled away by now, but something was keeping her there. “It’s gotta be those eyes’ she thought. Gambit found a spot, he placed her gloved arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist, she jumped a little. A slow song came on and they start to sway to the music.

“ Sorry Chere , I’m making you uncomfortable, no?”

“ Something happens when people touched my skin…it’s my power so to speak”

“ What happens?”

“ I absorb their engry, their memories and if that are mutants and get some of their powers for a while”

“ Well, dat’s some power you got there, chere” Gambit said in a very teasing matter. He smiled at her. She smiled back.
“ What’s your name, Girl?”

“ Rogue…”

“ No, what’s your real name?”

“ Marie”

“ Marie? Pretty name…I’m Remy”

Rogue was blushing , it felt good to be in someone’s arms. Gambit forgot all about the mission. He had learned her name, but he wasn’t satisfied. There was something about her, something under that tough cookie persona, something innocent. He wanted to know that part of her, her wanted to know everything about this girl called Rogue.

When the song ended Rogue ( still a bit shy) pulled away from him. Her chest pounding she began to speak.

‘ Umm...tthanks for the dance” she said softly
‘ THANKS FOR THE DANCE??!?” she thought to herself “ my god Rogue he must think you’re an idiot, not that you care what he thinks or anything like that”

“ Anytime, chere” he said

“ well I should go…” Rogue started to head back to the table

Gambit grabbed her wrist and gently pulled her back to him. She had her back up against his chest and he put his hands on the gloved part of her upper arms.

“ Don’t go just yet” he said

Rogue wasn’t sure what to do. No one had ever gotten that close to her since she discovered her powers. It was a good feeling, she had almost forgotten how it felt to be so close to some one and have that person not be afraid. Gambit saw something in Rogue, like she needed some one to be there for her without fear. He only meant to get her name, that’s all he wanted, or so he thought. He felt like he was suppose to protect her. He wanted to protect her. Gambits gaze began to wonder when he caught sight of Colossus, Pyro and Quciksilver starring at him all of them with looks on their faces that read” do u know what your doing?” That’s when Gambit remembered the mission.
Gambit brought his mouth down by Rogue’s ears

“ Sorry, Chere” he whispered “ Nothing personal”

Before Rogue even had a chance to question him. Gambit pushed her away . She stumbled a bit and fell to the ground.

“ Get out of here, Rogue!” He yelled has he charged a card and threw it up at the disco ball, which scattered it into a billion little pieces.

The students began to panic and scream had they rushed out of the dance. Gambit ran over to his team. Nightcrawler teleported over to Rogue and helped her up.

“ You ok, sis?”

“ I’m fine!” Rogue was pissed
Lying, snake charmer, I’ll show him” she thought

Cyclops, Jean, and ShadowCat joined up with Rogue and Nightcrawler. Gambit, Pyro, Quicksilver and Colossus stood oppisite of them. Colossus metalled up and Cyclops made the first move by taking a shoot at him with his optic blast. In return Colossus picked up a booth and chucked it at him. Which Jean Grey stopped before it hit Cyclops with her mental power. Avalanche (Lance), Toad and Blob were about to leave when Quicksilver stopped them.

“ Where do you think your going?”

“ This isn’t our battle Pietro” Lance said

“ i thought you wanted to join up with my father…of course, it’s probably to hard for you to harm Kitty- Witty’s precious friends” Pieto teased

Lance pointed his hands to the ground and shook the ground Pietro was standing on. Quicksilver did what he does best…run…run ..really really fast. Nighcrawler and Shadow Cat were battling with Gambit, well they were doing more of dogdeing Gambits energized cards. Rogue saw this has the perfect chance to get back Gambit. She approached him from behind slowly and began to take off her glove. She was about 2- 3 feel away. Pyro saw her.

“ Sorry, love” he said had he unleashed a fireball toward her way.

Rogue screamed which caught Gambit’s attention.

“Rogue!!!’

He turned around and grabbed her which caused them to stumble a bit. Once they came to a stop Gambit let her go.

“ You alright, Chere?”

“ Yeah” Rogue pushed him “ No thanks to you!, I thought you said you weren’t here to hurt me?!”

Gambit was so glad that she was safe, he hugged her. Rogue frozen ,she stopped her complaining.

“ I’m not….Rogue… I’m sor…..”

Gambit was about to ask for forgiveness when Pyro called out to him

“ Gambit! Come on!”

Gambit released the still stun Rogue. He took her gloved hand.

“ I’d like to give you something to remember me by..”
He gave her an uncharged card.
“ …Always mischievous, always unpredictable…”

With that he ran out of the building with the rest of his crew into the darkness. Rogue stood there in shock for a while and then looked down at the card Gambit had given her…The Joker.

The next mourning Rogue was at her dresser mirror, brushing her hair and getting ready for school. She put down her brush and looked around her room, empty. She reached into her back pocket and pulled out the card Gambit had given her last night. She stared at it and sighed.

" What's that you got?"

"AH!!!"

Kitty had come through the other side of the mirror and startled Rogue causing her to drop the card. Kitty walked through the dresser and picked up the card.

"Joker?"


Rogue tucked a strand of her behind her ear and kind of giggled a bit like she was uncomfortable. She snatched the card out of Kitty?s hands and put it in her back pocket. Rogue then grabbed Kitty wrist and dragged her out of the room and down the hall to where Scott would wait for them.

" Come on Kitty!we're gonna be late for school" Rogue said

Kitty still being dragged by Rogue.
" What?! Rogue wants to go to school? Gambit must have had a stronger effect than I thought"

Rogue stopped and turned around.
" What?!, Kitty he's the bad guy and beside of none of your business"

" Come on Rogue, you can't tell me that he's not incredibly gorgeous, and so into you, I was feeling it"

"Umm kitty,,.didn't you hear what I just said?he's the bad guy!"

Kitty took a few steps in front of her.
" True, but just because he's the bad guy, doesn't mean he's a bad guy"
Kitty smiled and jogged off to where Scott would be waiting. Rogue stood there, she pulled out the card from her pocket and thought about how he may have lied to her, but he did save her from Pyro's flames. She gave a half-smile to the card, put it back in her pocket and headed to Scott's car. Rogue went through out the school day, trying her best not to think of Gambit, which she wasn't doing a very good job of. It was the last period, there was about 10 minutes left. She was doodling on her notebook talking quietly to herself.

"What kinda name is Gambit any ways? And what?s up with the French? Oh and chere? What does that mean? He probably thinks he's all slick and stuff, like he can get any girl he wants, but not this girl, nope, he's not even that cute, ok maybe mildly cute but still!what does Kitty know anyways?!?!"

Kitty sat next to Rogue and heard every word she said.She leaned over and looked at Rogues; note book

"Kitty knows that you just scribbled the name Gambit all over your notebook" Kitty giggled

Rogue looked down at her notebook and there it was in bright red ink.Gambit, she didn't even notice what she was writing. Embarrassed Rogue stuffed her notebook in her backpack. The bell rang to go home, Rogue grabbed her bag and left hoping to get out go there fast, cause she knew Kitty was not gonna let her hear the end of this. Kitty was loving this, Rogue never put her self out there to much and always teased her when she had crushes, it was time for a little payback. Kitty style. Kitty quickly ran after Rogue, who was half way down the hall by now. Right when she reached her Kitty started the teasing.

"Rogue's got a crush,! Rogue's got a crush!"

" Kitty! Would you knock it out all ready!!"

They walked out into the parking lot, Kitty teasing her all the way.

"Admit it, girl, you soooo have a thing for this Gambit guy!"

" Well who could blame her?, the guy is rather impressing"
Kitty and Rogues stopped in their tracks. There leaning up against a tree, playing with a card was the joker himself, Gambit.

" Ladies?" he said

Kitty still in a playful mood wanted to embarrass Rogue some more.
" Bonjour, Mister Gambit" she said in a corny French accent

Gambit thought it was cute and let it slide. He smiled at Kitty.

"Now, what this I hear?, Chere, grown fond of me ,no?"

"umm..No" Rogue replied, the way Gambit phrased that confused her a bit.

" I see...still upset about last night, let me have a opportunity to make it up to you, petite"

"oh yeah how?"

" tonight, here at 7, be here, I'll answer all of your questions, especially the one I know you've been asking yourself since the day you saw me"

Rogue looked at him puzzled. He walks right up to her, inches away from her face.

"No worries, Chere, Gambits' single"

"Wha?" Rogue a bit sunned began to speak

Gambit turned and started walking away.

"Whoa, hey!" Rogue called. Gambit stopped and turned towards her. " What if I don't show up?"

"Well I could pick you up at your place, but I reckon that's not a good idea"

Rogue knew he was right. What would Prof. Xavier do if Gambit showed up at the door asking to see Rogue? Rogue sighed.

"All right,here at 7"

"Until then, Chere,Adieu" Gambit waved and contunied walking down the sidewalk.

Kitty was loving every minute of it.

"oh my god! Oh my good!! OH MY GOD!!!" Kitty screamed with excitement

"oh my god!" Rogue said with annoyance "What have I gotten myself into?"

"I believe it?s called?a date!"

"Date? No way" Rogue said. She bit the bottom of her lip
"Kitty...you can't tell anyone ok??

"Chill out, hello I've gone out with Lance,your secret romance is safe with me"
Kitty ran down the sidewalk towards Scott.


"IT?S NOT A ROMANCE!!!" Rogue yelled chasing her

Gambit rode off on his motorcycle to Magneto’s secret warehouse lair outside of town. He couldn’t believe how excitement he was. Going so fast wasn’t usually Gambit’s style but he just had to see her again. He kept his cool on the outside through. It has a bid gray building. Gambit entered the back side of the building, there was a parking garage. He parked his bike and headed to his room. Pyro was waiting for him by the door.

“ Hey Bloke, been looking all over this place for you” He saud

“ Had some business to take care of in town”

“ Speaking of in town, we going to Dazzler’s tonight?”

“ Got plans”

Gambit pushed the lever on the side that opened the metal slindling doors and went in. Pyro was left there standing in the hall. Colossus came walking down towards him

“ So pool tonight ?“he asked

“ Nope, Remy’s got plans?” Pyro said as he walked off

“ Plans?”Colossues asked


“ PLANS!?” Nighcrawler exclaimed
“What do you mean plans”

“ As in something I PLANNED to do” Rogue said as she browsed through her closet

“But,…But…what about family time, I rented movies!”

“ Sorry Kurt, tomorrow night ok?”

“ Ok” Night crawler said kinda disappointed .” HEY! Maybe Kitty will want to watch them!?”
He teleported out of the room . At that time Kitty phased through into the room
“ Can’t a girl have some private icy?!”

“ It’s just me Rogue and hey this is my room too, any ways what are you doing Rogue it’s like 6:30 ?”

“ I’m almost done”
Rogue came out of her closet. She was wearing black flare jeans with a dark green shirt top, a long sleeved black sweater over it and gloves, a green beaded choker, and her hair was up in a bun type thing with her streaks hanging down her face.

“ So what’s up with the change of clothes?”

“ I …spilled juice on what I was wearing ,this was the only thing clean”

“ Good enough….and the hair?”

“ It was all in my face”

“ Your hair is always in your face…..how you getting there Rogue?”

Rogue began to walk out of the room.
“ Scott’s taken me”
Scott pulled up to the school
“ Are sure tutorials are still going, Rogue?”
He said as Rogue got out of the car.

“ Yeah, it’s a private one”

“ Well if you need a ride, just call ok?”

“ok”

Scott drove off. Rogue waited a bit until she was soon he was gone. Then she headed for the tree. When she got there Gambit was waiting, there was also a motorcycle in the near by parking lot. She stopped when she saw him. He was wearing dark blue baggy jeans with a nice black buttoned up collar shirt. He left his chin length hair down, but he wasn’t wearing his trench coat The light from the street was hitting him at just the right angle.

“ Wow” Rogue thought” He looks so cute and…whoa wait a sec, don’t let you guard down cause of a handsome face”

Gambit noticed her , he smiled

“ Chere!” He called to her “ You just gonna stare at me all night?, Hoe’s bout you come take a closer look, eh?”

Rogue walked over to him
“ Remember, Rogue keep your cool” she thought

Gambit watched her as she walked over to him. She looked really cute tonight, it almost took the words out of his mouth. She stopped in front of him.

“My. My , what’s dis now ? Chere, you dress up for Remy?”

Rogue put her hands on her hips.
“ Wouldn’t be talking, your wearing that slick shirt” She tugged on the collar of the shirt a little
“ I think maybe Remy dress up for Rogue”
Rogue smirked at him at first, then turned her face away
“ Did I just do that?” she thought
She looked over at Gambit, he had a big smirk on his face
“ I’m glad Kitty isn’t here, I can just hear her now….” Rogue, you are sooo flirting”..”

Gambit could tell she was a little embrassed. He gently grabbed her wrist and lead her to his motorcycle. He was happy that she was becoming more friendly with him.
“ Where are you going?”

“ WE’re going out, Chere”

“ You never said anything about going out”

“ Rogue, it’s a Friday night, we really shouldn’t be at school”

He kinda helped lift her on to his motorcycle and gave her a helment. He got onto his cycle and revved the engine.

“ Better hang on, Chere, Gambit like to do something fast”

Gambit drove off, Rogue wrapped her arms around his waist. Rogue was a little nervous, he was going fast, she squeezed herself against his back and had her head laid between his shoulders. Gambit slowed down a bit, Rogue began to release her hold. IT didn’t take Gambit that long to reach his desired destitution. Gambit parked his motorcycle. Rogue got off. She started at the outside of the building, it looked kinda small.

“ Cajun café?”

“ Wha? Chere, you don’t like southern cooking?”

“ You kiddin’ I ‘m from the south, Miss. to be correct, what about you?”

“ N’ Orleans”He answered

“ N’Orleans, so you are a cajun,…then what’s up with the fren…”

“ I hang out in the French quarter a lot as a kid, now come on Rogue we didn’t come all this way just to look at it”

He put his arm around her and headed in. It wasn’t as small as it looked. They’re was a bar on the left as you entered, tables and booths on the right, in the left corner was a stage and in the right corner were some pool tables.

“ Come on Rogue”

Gambit and Rogue sat down in a booth kind of near the back. They sat across from each other.

“ Lebeau?” A well dressed guy came towards them

“ Hey Bobby, you still here?”

“ Haven’t see you here in a while , Remy”

“ Haven’t had time to come, haven’t had anyone to come with”

Rogue smiled

“ Who this, Remy?”

“ I’m Rou…Marie”

“ Well how are ya Marie”

“ I’m fine. Thanks”

“ Remy, you lucky dog, you always seem to find the pretty ones”

“ Yeah, I do get the pretty ones, but mon ami they always seem to find me”

He hands them 2 menus
“ Well hey I’ll leave you kids alone, I’ll send a waiter over “ Bobby left

“Who’s that” Rogue asked

“ The owner, I used to came here a lot”

“Oh…” Rogue paused for a moment “ Hey! What do you mean they find me? You’re the one who came to the dance”

“ True, but you find me first that day at the warehouse lot”

“ Oh you mean the one you tired to kill me in?’

“ The card wouldn’t have killed you, just hurt ya bit”

“ Well that’s makes it all better” Rogue said scarstacally

“ Hey you took the card”

“ You gave it to me!”

“ Didn’t mean you had to take it, why did you take it huh? I guess I’m so too irrestiable”

“ Don’t get to full of yourself Cajun, as I recall you tried to kiss me”

“Well as I recall, it seemed like you want me too“:
“ Lucky for you, you didn’t”

Just then the waiter came.

“ So, kids what would it be?”

They looked down at the menus.

“ Gumbo” Gambit said “ Spicy, cornbread and a large coke, Chere?”

“I don’t have any money” Rogue said

“ Don’t worry, Chere, Gambit never let a lady pay”

Rogue looked at the menu.
“Grilled catfish and hushpuppies on the side, medium sprite”

“ anything else?”

“ You want something else, belle?”

“ No, I’m good”

The waiter took up the menus
“ Food be ready in 10 yo 15”
He headed into the kitchen Rogue was having fun, more than she’s had in a while and has much has she hated to admit it, she was taking a liking to Gambit. Rogue looked around the room, one of the pool tables was empty, she turned and looked at Gambit.

“ You play pool, Cajun?”

“ Chere” He laughs” You thinking about challenging Gambit?”

“Not thinking, Remy….am”

She stood up and gave him a smirk. She headed towards the pool tables.

“I like dis girl more and more” he thought

Rogue had forgotten al about keeping her guard up. She really wasn’t thinking anything but how she wanted to beat Gambit at pool. She was having fun and liked being there with him. She reached the pool table and started pulling the balls out of the pockets. Gambit went over to the wall and picked out 2 pool sticks. Rogue had just finished setting up the balls in that triangle shape holder when Gambit’s walks over and hands her a stick.

“ You wanna break, Cajun?”

“ Had, you go on ahead Chere“

Rogue bent over and lined her stick up with the cue ball and took her shot. The balls chanked around, she knocked in the one and seven in. Gambit was impressed.

“ Bravo, Cherie

Rogue positioned herself to take another shot, she didn’t get anything in.

“ You learned both of my names, but still call me Chere, what does that mean?”

Gambit went next, he hit the 9 and 12 in .For the first time in a long time, he couldn’t think of anything to say. He didn’t want to tell her what it mean. at least not yet.

“ Why you ask? Does it brother you, CHERE?” He smiled and took another shot in, the 15 rolled into the corner pocket.

“No just wondering, CAJUN” She watched the !5 roll into the pocket” Your good…”

He took another shot, nothing in.

“ but not that good I guess….” She laughed
Rogue shot, she got the 5 in.

“You having fun ,Rogue?”

“ Yeah, but there’s one thing that’s brothering me”

Gambit walked over to the other side of the table where she was standing.

“

“ And what’s that Chere?”

“ Why are you doing this? I mean what are you trying to do?’ create a truce between us?”

“ Wha? Gambit can show a lady out on the town?”

“ Not when the lady happens to be you supposed enemy. You ever think about joining the X-men?”

“ Sorry ,Chere, I work for Magneto, “

“Oh” Rogue looked really disappointed “ So what’s gonna happen when he orders ya’ll to attack us? You gonna fight me Cajun?’

“ No Chere, I’ll fight the x-men but not you, not any more, I’m gonna protect you if I can. I won’t have you get hurt”

Rogue stared at him, stared into his eyes, full of sincerity and truth.. Rogue looked like she trusted someone from the first time, like she was almost thankful that he had been there with her.Gambit slowly started to lift his hand towards her face. Rogue pushed it away.

“ I…I ….need some water” She walked off towards the bar.

Gambit watched her walk off with a sadness. She was so close, yet miles away, it was a risk Gambit began to want to take. He knew, he saw it in her eyes, she needed him. At the bar Rogue’s asks for some water. She takes a sip.

“ Is he stupid?! “ She thought “: He knows what could happen, what would happen, Why would he wanna do something dumb like touch me?” She watched Gambit shot the rest of the balls in.

“ Look at him!”

Rogue looks over to the left of her, two waitress were staring at gambit and talking, more like gushing over him.

“ Possiabilty the cutest guy here!”

Rogue gives them a evil look, but they’re to busy goggling Gambit to notice

“ I wonder if he’s here with any one?”

“ I’m so getting his number!”

Rogue slams the glass down and walks over to Gambit.

“ You all right Chere?”

She grabs his hand, firmly, ad walks over to the booth, on the way she shots the girls a smirk as to say...yep he’s here with someone. They sit in the booth only this time she sits next to him.

“ You just can't resist my charms, huh? He says

“ Don’t Flatter yourself, Cajun”

Just then the waitress came with their food and served it to them. They began to chow down. Rogue cut up her fish and pieces, gambit reached over took a piece and ate it.

“ Hey! You got your own food”

“ Girl, how can you stand it, fish got no flavor to it, ain’t spicy enough”

‘ It’s fish Gambit, ain’t suppose to be”

“ true enough” He swallowed a spoonful of Gumbo ‘ You like Gumbo, Chere?”

“ Never had it”

“Mmm…Mmm…Mmmm… you don’t know what your missing, here try it” He pushes the bowl towards her. She picks up her spoon and tastes it. As soon as it hits her tongue it burns. She wanted to spit it out but not wanting to embarrass herself she swallows it.

“ HOT!, it’s hot!” Rogue takes a big slurp from her sprite, she starts to wave her hands at her mouth, like she’s trying to cool her mouth off. Gambit starts laughing.

“ Ain’t funny, Cajun”

He keeps laughing, Rogue takes a hush puppy and tosses it at his head.

“ Ah, these things are hard as rocks”

“ Serves you right for laughing, my tongue still hurts”

Gambit puts his arm around her.

“ We should do this more often, no?”

Rogue takes another big slurp from her cup
“ Yeah but next time I pick the spot”

The entire evening had been a blast for the both of them. They joked, laughed, and talked about everything the came to mind. It had been a long time since Rogue laughed like that, it had been a long time since both of them had company outside their team mates. Rogue had never let someone get so close to her so fast and Gambit had never fallen for a girl…ever. At least not like this. He had flings and past girlfriends but Rogue was the first girl he wanted to know, she was beautiful of course but she was also smart and strong. She needed someone to talk to, someone she could trust, and more than anything he wanted to be that person. The waitress came with the check. Gambit looked at it, got some money out of his pocket and put some money down along with the check.
“ So what now, Chere?”
Rogue looked at the wall clock, it was 10;19 pm
“ I should be getting home” She said
“ Already? Night’s still young”
“ Still the professor will start to wonder what I’m doing at school so late”
“ Your grades are bad” Gambit joked
“ Tutorilas until 10 on a Friday?, my grades aren’t that bad”
“ Alright, Chere, we go”
Rogue stepped out og the booth, Gambit followed. He put his arm around her and they went out the parking lay. They hopped on his motor cycle and jetted off. Rogue had her arms wrapped around Gambit’s waist with her head resting on his upper back. Thinking maybe he was going to fast, Gambit slowed down a bit, but Rogue still held on to him firmly with a smile on her face. They reached the outside gated of the mansion. Gambit parked on the side of the rode and Rogue got off.
“ I would walk you to the door, but….” He said
“ Yeah I know” Rogue said softly
There was a brief silence.
“ So when do I get to see you again?” Gambit asked
“ Are you sure we should be seeing each other?”
“ You didn’t like seeing me?”

“ No, I mean I liked it but you know, how are we gonna keep in contract?”
Gambit reached into his pocket he pulled out a pen and a couple of playing cards. He took one of the cards, pulled a pen out as well and wrote down his cell phone number and some other information on it and gave it to Rogue. Rogue grabbed the card and put it in her pocket. She leaned over and grabbed a card and the pen out of his hand and wrote down her cell phone number. She took her gloved hand and traced the outline of his face from ear to chin. She took his hand and gave him the card.

Gambit wacthed her walk up to the house. With a huge smile on his face her looked down at the card she had written on, it was the Queen of Hearts. He put it in his pocket and rode off down the rode. Rogue walked into the mansion with a huge smile on her face. Scott came down the stairs.
“ Rogue? Had did you get home?” Scott asked
“Umm….one of the students there gave me a ride” Rogue started heading up the stairs.
“ Oh…..” Scott replied “ Hey! I thought you said it was a private one?”
Rogue was already down the hall by then. Kitty was in her room talking on the phone to Lance.
“Nope she hasn’t come home yet……come on Lance, she’s ok, I really think this guy really likes her…..hey so what? I’ve been out with you before….”
Rogue walked into the room. There was a smile on her face.
“oh, hey Rogue’s here. So how was it?”
Rogue sat down next to her and hugged her. Kitty was surprised, the Rogue she knew this afternoon would’ve said some witty remark and gone to bed.. Rogue had never even gave Kitty a pat on her back and now she is hugging her.
“Umm…. Lance let me call you back” Kitty hung up the phone “ I take it you had a good time?”
Rogue got up and headed for her dresser.
“ It was great, he’s a cool guy” Rogue pulled out her Po’s and then went to change in the closet..
“ Well details….?” Kitty asked
Rogue came out dressed in her pj’s.
“ We ate at this cajun placed, played pool and talked, he’s so funny and charming”
“ Well obviously, since I haven’t seen you this gitty since….never”
Rogue hopped into bed.
“ Hey!” kitty said” What are you doing? I want more details”
“ Tomorrow Kitty, all the excitement has worn out” Rogue joked
“ Sure, whatever, but your not leaveing this hose until I hear the whole story” Kitty said as she turned off the lights.
The next mourning the x- teens had a danger room practice. The scenario was in a red, rocky mountain side. All of them had to get up there, while dodging laser beams, fighting robots and no one was to be left behind. Rogue was on the ball that mourning, like she had done of this before. Flipping and running around, she got to the top of the mountain first but even went back down to save Jean who had tripped and was being attacked by a robotic monster. When they all made it to the top, Professor Xavier ended the scenario. Strom , Wolverine and him were in the control room which hung above the danger room. Xavier spoke over the intercom .
“ Excellent teamwork everyone, all of you have passed the scenario and Rogue good work today on not leaving any one behind, quite impressing, your all dismissed”
They all exited the danger room and were walking down the halls to go to their rooms. Jean approached Rogue.
“ Thanks Rogue, for the save”
“ Don’t mention it….we’re a team right?” Rogue walked off
“ Since when has she been so team oretioned?” Jean turned and asked Scott
“ She’s been acting weird since last night” He answered


Everyone went to their rooms to change, Rogue was done changing and was headeding out the door when Kitty phased through.
“ God! Don’t you ever use doors?!” Rogue exclaimed
“ And threes the Rogue we all know and love” Kitty teased
“ Any ways so I want to know everything”
“ Everything? Everything was great, I was completely at ease, more relaxed then I’d ever been since I’ve been here, but….”
“ But….” Kitty asked
“ He tried to touch me Kitty….” Rogue answered
“ Didn’t you tell him about your power?!”
“ Yes, but still he tried, “
“ he must really like you then Rogue”
Rogue looked at her weird.
“ I mean come on, to risk touching you, he either really likes you or is stupid”
“ Hey!”
“ No offense, but I mean you barely tapped me and I was feeling all kinds of dizzy”
Kitty made a good point, he knew what would happen to him, yet he still tried to touch her. This made Rogue very worried, she wanted to keep seeing him, but what if he tried to touch her again? What if he did touch her? She told herself she would just have to be extra careful around him. There was no more denying it, she had fallen for him, and the last thing she wanted to do was hurt him.
Gambit was sitting at a table in the warehouse playing solitaire. When Pyre pulled up a chair and sat next to him.
“ So mate, where were you last night?” He asked
“ I don’t see how that’s any of your business, John”
‘ Al right then Cajun, if you gots nothing planned tonight, do you have plans tonight?”
“ Don’t know yet” Gambit got up from the table, gathered his card and heaed towards the door.
“ So what’s your answer, bloke?”
“ I’ll be right back wit dat” Gambit left and went outside the warehouse. H e pulled out his cell phone and the card Rogue had given him and dialed the number Rogue was in the kitchen with Kitty and Kurt when her phone rang. She looked at the caller id and noticed it was Gambit’s number.
“Be right back” Rogue quickly left to her room and locked the door.
“ Hello?” She anwered
“ Chere?”
Remy? Is that you?”
“ Chere….every time you say my name it makes me blush a bit”
“Alright Cajun, quit the charamin’ what’s up?”
“ Gonna see you tonight?”
“ Doubtful, got plans with Kitty and the others”
“You sure? you don’t want to spend the night with Gambit?”
“ Sorry, Sugah.. You know I’d love to But it has to be some other time”
“ Well don’t keep Gambit waiting to long, Chere”
“ I’ll call you if anything chages”
“ Alright, I’ll accept that for now, bye Chere”
“ Bye Remy”
Rogue hung up for phone.
“ Did I just her you call some one Sugar?” Kitty had phased through the lock door
“Can a girl get some privacy?” Rogue said
“ Not when your room mate can walk through walls” Kitty smiled ‘ Now…. What’s this Sugar stuff?”
“ Did I say Sugar?” Rogue answered
“ Well, it was more like SUGAH….real southern like”
“ Oh well I guess me being from the south has nothing to do with it’ Rogue joked
“ Could be? Or maybe your just sweet on him”, any ways tell me you didn’t make plans with him your going with us”
“ no I didn’t make plans, were are we going anyways?”
“ Rogue, where do all teenagers go when the have nothing to do?”
“ No, don’t tell me….”
“ Yep” Kitty said “ We’re going shopping at the mall”
Gambit headed back inside, Pryor was still sitting at the table.
“ So what’s you answer mate?”
‘ yeah I guess I’ll go, ain’t got nothing better to do, where we going anyways?”
“ Remy, we are single teenage men, where else would we go other then where the chick are?”
“ No don’t tell me….”
“ Yep” Pyro said “ We’re going to the mall”

Later that night, Scott, Jean, Kurt, Kitty and Rogue all got into Jean’s SUV and went to the mall. This really wasn’t Rogue idea of a good time, watching Kitty and Jean shopping for trendy up to the minute outfits. She eventually wondered off to the music store. Scott and Kurt were at the electronic store testing out video games. Gambit, Pyro and Colossuss were dressed in their teenager get ups when they entered the mall through the food court. They were walking along, Pyro checking out the girls, winking at the cute ones and what not. Colossuss was really the one getting the attention, all tall dark and handsome. Gambit wasn’t really paying attention to much. Just looking around into the windows of the shops. That’s when he got Rogue walking over from the music store to the store Kitty was in. Gambit knew what would happen if Pyro saw them .

“ Um….I’ll be right back guys gotta go look at something” Gambit said has he walked off towards the store he saw Kitty and Rogue walk into. Pyro turned to Colossus.
“ Let’s gory out the new vid games, mate. Until Remy comes back” Pyro and Colossus left to the electronic store, the same one Scott and Kurt were in. Gambit peeked trough the glass of the store to make sure no other X-men were in there. When he just saw Kitty and Rogue he went in.
“Rogue….” he said as he approached her
“ GAmbit what are you doing here?”
“ Look Chere you and Kitty got to get out of here”
“ Gambit? Why?”
“ Pyro and Colossus are here with me, if they see you 2 their gonna start trouble and I don’t want to have to fight you”
“ Ok, we gotta go find the others” Kitty said\
“ Who’s all here?” Gambit asked
“ Jean went to get a coke and Scott and Kurt are at the electronic store” Rogue said
Just then the heard a blast and people screaming. They rushed out of the store and there in front of the electronic store was Pyre and Colossus fighting with Cyclops and Nightcrawler. Just then Jean came running towards Rogue and Kitty.
“ Hey! Get away from them!” Jean shouted has she used her powers to throw Gambit against Colossus
“ All these people” Jean said to them “ We can’t fight here”
“ Don’t look like we have much of a chocise does it?” Rogue said
Jean and Kitty rushed over to Scott and Kurt. Rogue and Gambit stared at each other with sadden faces. They both knew they would have to fight on the said of their teams. Rogue joined her team. She Kitty and Jean were fighting with Colossus. Nightcrawler and Pyro were fighting and Gambit was taken on Cyclops.
Jean sent a telepathic message to Scott.
“ Scott this isn’t wise fighting here!”
“ Yeah why not try telling them that” he thought
Cyclops still fighting with Gambit, and using his optic blast to destroy Gambit energized cards was getting tried of this. He aimed at the ceiling and was apart to take a shot. Rogue noticed what he was about to do. If he aimed his optic blast just right the ceiling would crumble and fall on Gambit. Cyclops was just about to shot
“ NO!” Rogue shouted has so pushed Cyclops both Rogue and Cyclops tumbled on to the ground. Rogue rolled under a huge coulomb
The sudden pushed cause Cyclops optic beam to blast this huge column , the same column Rogue had rolled by. Right before it came crashing down. Gambit quickly ran over and saved her. He carried her out of harms away, The column came crashing down and there was a huge cloud of smoke. When the smoke cleared, both teams stared in shock. There was Gambit holding Rogue in his arms. Rogue coughed a little.
“ Chere? Don’t scare Gambit like that, he worrys bout you”
“ I’m ok Gambit, thanks to you”
“ Girl, I saw you push Cyclops, I owe it to you”
He kissed her head through her hair. She smiled briefly until she looked at her team.
“ Gambit I think you should put me down”
Gambit look over at them, he put her down.
“Rogue, what are you doing?” Kurt asked
“Yeah, Remy? What’s this thing all about?“ John asked
No words came from either of them. All of them were shocked but Scott was a tad bit upset.
“ Rogue!” He exclaimed “ Let’s go” Cyclops began walking off to the malls exit with Jean, Kurt. And Kitty following behind.
Rogue looked up at Remy. Both of them had sad expressions on their faces
“ I guess then mean bye” Rogue said sadly
“Shame too, could’ve been something good…” He grabbed her hand and held it tighly. She hugged him.
“ Bye, Cajun” she said holding back tears
“ Bye Chere” He sighed
Rogue forced herself to let him go and walked away. She didn’t look back, she couldn’t, it took all her strenht to walk away if she looked back she might just run to him. Gambit stood there, watching her walk off with her team. He took a few steps forward, almost like he was going with her,
“ Gambit?” Colossus said “ We should go”
He stopped walking towards her and followed his team back to Magneto’s lair. Back at Jean’s SUV. Rogue was sitting in the middle with Kitty and Kurt on either side of them. Jean of course was in the driver seat and Scott in the passenger seat.
“ Rogue!” I think you owe me…owe us an explanation why did you push me?“ Scott demanded
Rogue looked up at him.
“ I…I….I don’t have to tell you anything!! It’s none of you concern!” Rogue yelled back
“ Jean!?”
“ yes Scott”
“ head back to the mansion, I’m sure Professor will want to know what Rogue was doing”
Jean began to drive to the mansion. When they got there they all sat in the main living room, the one with an fireplace. Rogue sat on a couch. Kitty and Kurt were leaning up against the fireplace. Jean and Scott were sitting on the couch opposite of Rogue. Xavier came in with Wolverine and Strom.
“ Now what’s the problem students?” Xavier said
Rogue and Scott started talking all at once.
“ Whoa! Calm down one at a time” Logan said
“ Scott you go first” Orion said
“ Professor…when we were at the mall, Magneto’s team showed up and attacked us, I was about to blast one of the members when Rogue pushed me out of the way, I missed and shot a column down, me and her to tumble and when the smoke cleared her and the enemy were holding each other!!”
Xavier turned to Rogue.
“ Rogue is this true?”
“ Yes, but Scott would’ve killed him with the crush of the ceiling on him, we are not support to kill other mutants, unless no other way”
“ There was no other way!” Scott pro tested
“Professor...he saved me, I did push Scott but only cause you taught us to try to get other mutants to join us not destroy them…”
Kurt and Kitty were surprised with the words coming out of Rogue’s mouth.
“ Is it me Kurt?” Kitty said “ or does Rogue sound a lot like Jean right now?”
“ it’s not just you “ Kurt replied
Scott calmed down. He sighed
“ Still he Is the enemy….”
“ This is true Rogue, I can’t punish you were wanting to help other mutants, you were only doing what has been excepted of you as an X-men but your actions were rather reckless I can punish you for that, your to come home directly after Scholl everyday for the next two weeks and you will stay home on the weekends as well, what ever your actions or involvement with Magneto’s team member will cease into further notice”
Rogue nodded and head up to her room. Kitty knocked on the door.
“ Rogue?” She said softly
“ Please Kitty can you give me some time?”
“ Maybe it’s best if you stop seeing him Rogue”


“ I want you to continue to see her Gambit” Magneto said
“ Come again?”
“ You don’t know this but I tried to get Rogue to join our team some time back, you could be the link to get her to join us, the girl does have such power”
“ Uh…. One thing Magneto the x-me saw us, chances are I won’t be able to see her or talk to her without…”
“ Well we just going to have to be more forceful”
“What’s that mean?”
“ The girl’s power are not being tested to it’s limits, She would be far better off joing our team, and if we can’t persuade her we’ll make her”
Gambit did not like the sound of that. He would love to have Rogue with him all the time, but not if she was force too. He wasn’t gonna have her get hurt. Even if it means betraying Magneto.

The next day, everyone was training with lLogan, and once again Rogue came out on top not cause she was on cloud nine….cause she was pissed. They were practing fighting each other and everyone that went up against Rogue well felt her fury but none of them felt it harder than when it was Scott’s turn. Scott was a little nervous, he had been watching Rogue fight everyone else. Even Logan was a bit taking back. Scott entered the practice fighting circle and they began curcling each other.
“ ok Rogue I know your upset”
“ oh I’m far beyond upset, “ she took a swing at him but he dodged it. She kept swinging and kicking at him at he would dodge it.
“ I mean , come on, it’s not like you had a crush one him or anything, he’s just some random guy”
‘ just some random guy!?!?!?!” Rogue thought
She swung back her arm and punched Scott so hard it hurt her fist. Everyone stared at her and shock, as she turned and walked towards the house, they all took a step back to let her pass.
“ he’s not just some random guy” She thought as she stormed off into the mansion” He cares for me and I care for him, so what’s wrong with that?”
Mean while back at Magneto’s lair. Gambit was sitting outside smoking. He was leaning up against the back side of the bugling.
“ What am I going to do?” He thought “ it’s not safe to call her, no doubt she’s in trouble, “
He sighed
“ Will I never see her again?:” He said to himself
“ Your thinking about it too much, bloke” Pyre came walking from behind the corner of the warehouse. He had been looking for gambit and had heard what he said.
“ She’s just a girl, come on Remy, there ‘ll be plenty others”
“ Others? Not like her…” Gambit thought
He took one last drag of his cigarette and throw it down to the ground. He began to walk to the door which was right by where Pyre was standing. Pyro was sure he had affended Gambit in some how, like he was talking about a touch subject.
“ Cheer up mate….” Pyro said nervously” threes going to be other girls….”
Gambit stopped right in front Of pyro. Pyro had convieced himself that Gambit was gonna say some witty remark that would leave him speechless.
“ You can have those other girls, John, You can have a meaningless relationship, you can go from woman to woman, searching for something in someone, I’ve done all that and I’m done with that cause I’ve found it, I’ve found something great, I see it in her, she needs me, I care for someone now, no more fighting…..” Gambit went inside
Pyro stood there stunned, Gambit had left him speechless, but not in the way he exepted.He never thought…Gambit? Mister lady’s man, could have any girl he wanted with a smile and a nodded, done with the game?
“ there must be something really special about this girl” pyro thought has he went inside
And there was something about her, but not just her. There was something in Gambit too For one reason or another the needed each other, since the moment they first sae each other. Gambit never meant for it to go this deep, at first she was like any other pretty face that he couldn’t get out of his head, but he noticed the spunk in her and the attuide. He adored it , he knew there was something great behind all that toughness and he was right too. He knew she was unique cause he could just talk to her forever and he didn’t even have to touch her to feel close to her. It was a feeling he never felt before, she was precious to him and he could never be apart of anything that wanted to hurt her. By the time he got to his room he had decide….he was gonna leave Magneto’s team.

At the same time Rogue was sitting at her desk writing in her journal about Gambit. At first Gambit had seem like just some guy wanting a date , which of course it was, but it was far more than that. She saw it in him that night at the café. There was a sweetness and behind the charm was a amazing guy with a good heart that cared for her, She could read it in his red and intense eyes, he cared for her and she cared for him.
That night Gambit had packed a duffle bag filled with his stuff, clothes, cards, anything and everything he could fit in that bag. He wasn’t sure what he was gonna do, it was pretty late and Rogue was probably asleep by now. He figured he’d get a motel for the night and then go see Rogue at school the next mourings. What he was gonna do when he saw her he wasn’t sure of. Maybe ask her to go away with him that seemed to be the only thing he can think of. He lifted the bad and headed out to the hall. He peaked his head out first to make sure no one was out there. Slowly and quiently he tip toed down to the garage where his motorcycle was. He reached for the handle to the door of the garage.
“ Where you going Remy?” a voice from behind him
It was John, he was sure of it, but to Gambit’s surprise it was Peter ( Colossus)
“ Pete what are you doing up?”

“ You right about that, she has everything to do with it”
“ Where you going this late?”

“ Your going to her, are you not?” Peter asked
Gambit said nothing. He just walked into the garage got on his cycle and rode off to a little motel between the warehouse and Rogue’s school. The next day at school Rogue was back to her old “ hate the world” self again. She didn’t really talk to anybody and when she did something cruel and sarcastic came out of her mouth. After school instead of going straight home she went to go
sit under the tree that see had met Gambit at the night they went out together. She sat underneath the tree with her back laming against it. With a sad face she thought about how she wanted to see Gambit. She buried her face in her arms. She felt like crying that was onto she heard a familiar voice.
“:Cheer?:”
She looked up and there was Gambit with his arm reached out to her.
“ Remy?!” She said had she placed her gloved hand in his, he helped lift her off the ground
“ Miss me?”
She hugged him tightly
“I reckon so” He said
“ Rimy, you shouldn’t be here if anyone saw us together….”
“ Well we should go someplace where no one can see us, no?”
He lead her to the empty gym. They sat down in the bleachers, she had her head on his shoulder and he had his arm around her.
“ Cheer…?”
“ yes gambit”
“ I left Magneto’s team”
“ What? You did? That’s great…You should join….”
“ I know what your gonna say, petite , but I was thinking bout going on a little vactions, away from all this”
“ Oh” Rogue sighed “: So your leaving huh?”
“ Yeah, I’m leaving……but not with out you, girl”
Rogue looked at him and smiled
“ I just found you, Rogue, and I’m not gonna lose you”
Rogue was flattered but she had a family, the x-men. She stodd up and walked out into the court. Gambit got up and walked out to her.
“ So how’s bout it bell?”
“ Where would we go?”
“ Anywhere you want to, you know Gambit go with you anywhere”
“ Alright” Rogue said
“ Alright?” Gambit said
“ I’ll go,”
They hugged each other
“Aw…..well isn’t that sweet?”
Rogue and Gambit released each other and there standing blocking the door way was Quicksilver, Pyro, and Colossus.
“ Wha? How did u know I was here?!” GAmbit yelled
“ I am sorry, Remy, but Magneto was questiong me” Peter said
“ You may have left the team but that doesn’t change Magneto’s mind about the girl” Pyro said
“ Don’t you touch her” Gambit said has he throw an energized card at them. Quicksilver ran over ro Rogue and grabbed her. Gambit began to chase after him but of course he was to fast and Pyro created a ring of fire around him.
“ REMY!” Rogue screamed has she was being rushed away.
“ Rogue!!! Rogue!!! MARIE!!!!” Gambit yelled
Gambit took a deep berth and covered his head with his trench coat, he jumped through the fire and ran to his motorcycle.
“ There’s no way I can take them all alone” He thought “ I’m gonna need some help”
There was only one chocie, he headed to Xavier’s Mansion. HE parked on the side of the rode by the gate. He was little nervous and wasn’t entirely sure what he was gonna say The cameras picked him up. Beast was on security duty.
He annoced to Xavier of the intercom
“ Professor?”
“ yes I know Hank let him in and assemble the team”
The core team met in the lobby just as Gambit walked in

“ You, what do you want/?” Cyclops asked
“ Chill out Moi Ami. Rogue’s in trouble Magneto kidnapped her”
“ She’s in trouble? yeah cause of you how do we know you arent’ trying to set us up?” Scott replied
Kitty became to speak up
“ Cause…” She said nervously “ Cause they like each other, I know I wasn’t support to keep in a secret from all of you, but Rogue really cares for him and I’m sure he cares for her to”
“ Kitty’s right” Xavier said has he came down the hell with Beast. “ Gambit is speaking the truth, Rogue was kidnapped and Gambit had no knowledge of it’
“ He’s gonna hurt her, he wants to do experaimant on her,” gambit said
Xavier turned to Scott.
“ Scott you and the rest of the team will follow Gambit’s directions to the lair”
“ He’s coming with us? Professor I ….”
“ Scott this isn’t about Gambit , it’s about Rogue. Now quickly to the Blackbird”

Mean while back at Magneto’s lair. Rogue was tied to a metal chair with a huge laser pointing to her.

“ Hey! Bucket head!” She screamed “wa re you gonna do to me?”
“ Do you know hoe great of a power you have, Rogue?” The ability to absorb anyone’s power, their lives…..”
“ Yeah? And I can never touch someone, what a power” she said sacaratilly
“ I always wondered…if you held on long enough and you could absorb other mutant power into your body so that they became yours”
“ What?” Rogue asked
“ In this device is the DNA of a mutant known has Miss Marvel, If I blast this Dna on to you for a long enough time, my guess is that you will aborb so much of her power that she will become part of you or it could kill you either way”
“ No” Rogue gasped
“ it the switch, Pietro”
Pietro turned the machine on and a bright green beam began to surround Rogue
“ AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” Rogue screamed
Outside then warehouse the Blackbird had landed.
“ That’s Rogue!” Gambit said has he got off the plane
“ Easy there my friend” Night crawler said “ We must be careful”
“ Kitty,” Scott said “ Take a peak of what’s going on”
Kitty stuck her head through the wall and saw what was happening.
“ It’s Rogue they got her tied to a chair and they are shooting something on her”
“Ok, Everybody” Scott said “ let’s go…”
“ Not so fast” Pyre said. He Colossus and Quicksilver who had went outside with them were standing behind them. You’ll have to deal with us first.
“ I know my way around the building” Gambit whispered to Cyclops “ Deal with these guys and I’ll save Rogue”
“ Alright,I’m trusting you” Cyclops responded. As the battle raged outside. Gambit quient;y sneaked into the warehouse.. The machine head just stopped whence entered the room, Rogue had passed out from all the screaming. He quickly on tied her and wrapped her in his trench coat.. He picked her up and was heading out the door.
“ Gambit…I knew you would come back to us” pyro had followed gambit in
“ Get out of my way”
“ What’s makes you think I’m gantlet you leave here with her” Pyro created a huge fire ball but gambit dodged it, the fireball hit the electronic machine and the room began to blaze up
“ I don’t have time to play now, Rogue needs me”
“ How you going to get passed me?”

Gambit looked above Pyro, there was some kinda of machine hanging down.
“ Like this” Gambit threw charged card at it which caused the machine to come crashing down almost hitting Pyre. Well Pyro ducked. Gambit raced out of the building that was about to explored. The other X-men were in the jet already has Gambit raced over to it with Rogue in his arms. When he got in he laid her down and Jean and started the jet an took off.
“ What happen? Where’s magneto>?” Scott asked
“: He must have escaped” Gambit replied
“ What about Rogue?” Kurt asked
“ She needs CPR” Kitty y said
But who was gonna give Rogue, the mutant whos touch could drain all your energy CPR? Gambit didn’t hesitate at all he lifted her head up a bit and touch her lips with his. It was a painful sensation but he kept going until she awoke, and with that he passed out. Rogue gasped for air. She looked down at Gambit who had passes out next to her.
“ gambit?….”
“ He gave you CPR?’ Kitty said
: What? He knows one touch…” Rogue stopped what she was saying, she realized he did it cause he was concerned about her. The crew flew back to the mansion where gambit was placed under Beast’s care. Rogue would stay by his side any chance she could. She even slept in the informatory with him. He was like that for 3 days. When he awoke Rogue was there to greet him.
“ Chere?”
Rogue rose from the chiar she was sitting in and stood next to his bed holding his hand..
“ Remy? You all right you ol’ swamp rat” She said happily
“ You were right, girl….that was the shock of my life”
“you such a fool , you know what happens when people touch me”

“ couldn’t help it chere, you looked so cute, was my only chance to kiss ya too”
Rogue began to blush.
“ Your crazy”
“ Crazy for you Chere”
“ I’m just glad your alright” She replied
:“Gambit does not fall so easily Chere…and what about you? What did Magneto do to you?
Rogue smiled , suddenly she began to float up into the air and postioned herself flying above Gambit inches away from his body.
“ Chere!! Your flying!!!!”
“ I’ve gotten stronger too…I can lift up Scott’s car with ease”
Gambit smiled
“ Your amazing”
Rogue placed her gloved hand over his mouth and kissed it.
“ Where would I be with at you cajun?”
“ probably back at Magnetos’ liar” he teased
Just then Beat walked in and saw Rogue floating over Gambit.
“ My, my now Rogue that’s no where to act” He teased
Rogue placed herself on the ground . Beast approached Gambit’s bed.
“ Now how are you feeling?”
“ I feel great, I….”
“ Are you well enough to have a meeting with Xavier?”
“ What’s he want?” Rogue asked
“ I can not read his mind Rogue, he wants you to be there as well”
Rogue and Gambit thought of the samething, punishment, their relationship was now out in the open.
Gambit looked over at Rogue who had a worried look on her face.

“ Well gotta get it over soon or later” He said has he stood up
“ If he makes you leave, I’m going with you”
They hugged each other and then began walking down the hall holding hands , with Beast behind them. The entered the main lobby and there was Xavier, Scoot, Jean, kitty, Kurt , logan and oron standing around Xavier.
“ I’ve seen you came to?” Xavier said to Gambit
“ Thanks to your help”
“ So now what are you going to do with yourself?” Are you going back to Magneto>?”
“ Well I really don’t know what I am gonna do, but I ain’t going back there”
“ Rogue…”
“ Yes…”
“ You know you shouldn’t have kept this a secret, infact this shouldn’t have even happned. And Gambit cause of you Rogue was put in reckless danger!”
Rogue and gambit felt it, they held each other hands tighter. No matter if they had to leave they always had each other. Xavier began to speak again
“ But Gambit because of you….Rogue is here with us today”
Gambit looked up at Xaiver.
“ I would like you to join the X-men”
Smiles appeared on their faces
“ You have shown great braver and loyalty, has well as compassion, if you want to, your welcome to stay as one of us”
“ you mean this? Gambit an x-men?”
Gambit looked down at Rogue who had tears of happiness in her eyes.
“ Alright” gambit stepped towards Xavier and extended out his hand
“ I’ll be an x-man”
Xavier smiled has he shook Gambit’s hand.
“ Well your gonna need a room, Kurt, don’t you need a room mate?” Xavier said
Kurt walked over to gambit and put his arm around him.
“ Sure, if you gonna be dating my sister I guess I should get to know you”
Gambit looked over at Rogue.
“ Sister ?”
“ it’s a Long story” she replied
Gambit got settled in and was given an suit. That night he and Rogue went out onto the roof. He wrapped her in a blanket and held her.
“ So…what does Chere mean, Cajun?’
“ My dear, it means my dear”
“ Is that way you were embrassed to tell me at first”
“ Gambit doesn’t get embarrassed chere, ne ways now that we are together I’m going to have to start calling you something different”
“ What else could you call me?”
Gambit bought his mouth down to her ear
“ Mon Amour”
Rogue smiled and blushed
“ Right back at you, Cajun”
He kissed her hair and pulled her close. No more fighting. No more games. The both have found what they had been searching for, Someone to call their own. Someone cared for. Someone to spend all their time with. Someone to make each other fell wanted. Someone to love and all of this was perfect for a couple named Gambit and Rogue.
